Past efforts by the 7th, 8th, and 9th National Assemblies to reform local government administration through constitutional amendments were unsuccessful. However, there is a growing consensus that a holistic approach, addressing the root causes of insecurity, and optimising fiscal federalism is essential.

Similarly, in alignment with its Legislative Agenda on “Strengthening Good Governance(Agenda One) and “Law Reforms (Agenda Three), the 10th House of Representatives identifies Nigeria’s Local Government system as an important tier of governance that requires legislative attention.

The One-Day Public Policy Dialogue is put together by the House Committee on Public Sector Institutions Reforms in collaboration with the Office of the Speaker, House of Representatives, and the FCDO Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn’s Engaged Citizen Pillar.
