The House of Representatives on Wednesday advanced two important legislative proposals as they scaled Second Reading, marking further progress in the development of Nigeria’s regulatory and economic framework.

Among the bills debated was the Bitumen Development Commission of Nigeria Bill, which seeks to establish a legal and institutional framework to promote research, investment, exploration, production, exportation, and utilisation of locally sourced bitumen resources in Nigeria.

Also debated was a Bill to Amend the Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria Act No. 39, 2022, aimed at strengthening the institutional and regulatory framework guiding professional risk management practice in the country.

Following the consideration of their general principles, the Bitumen Development Commission Bill was referred to the House Committee of the Whole, while the Chartered Risk Management Institute (Amendment) Bill was referred to the House Committee on Commerce for further legislative work.
