The House of Representatives, at its plenary on Thursday, December 4, 2025, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR, addressed a robust agenda focusing on critical national issues including education, security, public safety, and national identity reforms.

The House adopted three key motions and successfully passed one bill at the Third Reading, marking a highly productive sitting.

Key Legislative Actions:

The House called for the Federal Government to immediately fast-track all Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) procurement processes. This includes tenders, vendor evaluation, contract awards, and the acquisition of vehicles, surveillance, communication equipment, protective gear, and operational supplies, to ensure immediate nationwide deployment to bolster security efforts.

Members urged the Federal Ministry of Education to urgently rescind the directive removing key subjects (including Computer Studies, Data Processing, Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Photography, and Civic Education) from the WAEC portal. The motion stressed the need to allow students a fair chance of success in the 2026 WASSCE given the limited timeframe.

The House tasked the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, to urgently remobilise the contractor for the immediate reconstruction of the abandoned Abakaliki-Ikwo-Ofereje-Obubra Road. The road was highlighted as a death trap for commuters and adjoining communities and a hotspot for robbery and other criminal activities.

Shortly before adjournment, the House achieved a legislative milestone by passing a crucial Bill that provides for the establishment of the National Identity Database and the re-established National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)
