I am happy to report that work is progressing steadily on the Motherless Babies Home in Itapa, Ekiti. When completed, it will serve the entire state, giving vulnerable children a safe and caring place to live and ensuring that no child is left behind, regardless of the circumstances of their birth.
During my campaign in 2022, I met a bus driver who shared his experience of losing his wife during childbirth while the baby survived. The family faced a major challenge because there was no mother figure with the wherewithal to care for the newborn. He had reached out to orphanages in Iyin Ekiti and Ado Ekiti but could not secure a space.
This highlighted the urgent need for an additional orphanage, especially for children in the Ekiti North axis. Orphanages should be within reach so that families and communities can stay involved in the lives of such vulnerable children, maintain bonds vital for their growth, and support smooth reintegration into society when they are old enough.
The need for such a facility inspired the ongoing construction of the Motherless Babies Home in Itapa. The project follows the Ekiti State Social Protection Law, which provides for the creation and maintenance of orphanages and homes for vulnerable children, in line with best practices.
When completed, the facility will include boarding rooms, staff quarters, a crèche for early childhood education, a playground, and other essential amenities. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where every child in Ekiti State can grow, learn, and have a better start in life.
