On this edition of #Periscope, we spotlight the health-focused Committees of the 10th House of Representatives. These are seven Standing Committees whose mandates directly shape Nigeria’s health policies, institutions, and oversight.
From Healthcare Services and Health Institutions to Specialty Healthcare, these Committees oversee the Federal Ministry of Health, teaching hospitals, medical centres, and national programmes at the heart of healthcare governance.
They are complemented by Committees with specialised mandates on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Control, Food and Drugs Administration and Control, Drugs and Narcotics, and Nutrition and Food Security. Collectively, their work spans specialist hospitals, food safety, disease control, and drug regulation.
Backed by the Standing Orders of the House, each Committee is led by a Chairperson and tasked with ensuring accountability, service delivery, and budgetary scrutiny across the health sector.
Curious about their jurisdictions, leadership, and why their work matters to everyday Nigerians?
