THIRD READING
The House of Representatives, at its plenary on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, passed the Federal College of Agriculture, Kagarko (Establishment) Bill, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen agricultural education, research, and capacity development in Nigeria.
The Bill seeks to amend the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act, Cap. A12, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, to provide a legal framework for the establishment of the Federal College of Agriculture, Kagarko, Kaduna State, and related matters.
Following its passage by the House, the Bill will proceed to the Senate for concurrence in accordance with the legislative process.
SECOND READING
The House also advanced three Bills to the Committee Stage following debate on their general principles and successful passage at Second Reading.
The Bills are:
1. A Bill to Mainstream the Digital Economy in Trade, Investment and Industry (HB. 2538)
2. A Bill to Provide for Sustainable Finance in Banks and Other Financial Institutions in Nigeria (HB. 2540)
3. A Bill to Prevent TB-Based Discrimination and Protect the Rights and Dignity of Persons Living With or Affected by Tuberculosis** (HB. 2298)
The proposed legislation seeks to promote innovation, strengthen competitiveness, and drive economic growth through digital integration; embed sustainability principles within Nigeria’s financial system and encourage responsible financing practices; and safeguard the rights and dignity of persons affected by tuberculosis while supporting inclusive public health responses.
Following their Second Reading, the Bills were referred to the relevant Committees of the House for further legislative scrutiny, stakeholder engagement, and consideration.
