The House of Representatives, through its Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education, is set to hold a public hearing on two critical bills aimed at expanding access to technical and vocational education in Nigeria.

The two bills under consideration are:
1. A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Polytechnics Act CAP F17 LFN 2004 to establish Federal Polytechnic, Adikpo, Benue State, to provide for full- and part-time courses of instructions in various fields of study and related matters. (HB.1372)
2. A Bill for an Act to Establish the National College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Illela, Sokoto State, to provide full-time courses, teaching instruction and training in technology, applied science, arts, social sciences, humanities, and management. (HB.927)
Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Fuad Kayode Laguda (APC, Lagos), emphasised the significance of these bills in strengthening Nigeria’s technical and vocational education sector. According to him,
“Technical and vocational education plays a pivotal role in driving economic growth and equipping young Nigerians with the skills needed for the modern workforce. This public hearing provides an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to shaping legislation that will enhance access to quality education and skills development.”
The House urges key stakeholders, including education policymakers, academic institutions, student bodies, industry experts, civil society organisations, and the general public, to participate in this crucial legislative process by attending the public hearing and submitting relevant memoranda.
