Following a week-long Public Hearing on Tax Reform Bills, the House of Representatives resumed plenary with the introduction of 40 new bills, reflecting its commitment to key legislative priorities, including good governance, national security, economic growth, and social sector reform.
Among the standout proposals are constitutional amendments seeking to strengthen local government administration, ensure an independent National Local Government Electoral Commission, and review penalties for capital offenses. Lawmakers also advanced a Prohibition of Open Urination and Defecation Bill, reinforcing efforts to improve public health and sanitation across Nigeria.
Other key legislative proposals include the Older Persons Rights Bill, amendments to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau Act and Nigerian Ports Authority Act, as well as a bill to establish the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Trust Fund, aimed at harnessing diaspora resources for national development.
