The National Assembly Chapel, Abuja, was on Sunday commissioned by Her Excellency, Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, marking the fulfilment of a long-standing aspiration of the Christian community within Nigeria’s apex parliamentary institution.

The Chapel represents years of sustained vision, voluntary sacrifice, and collective commitment by the Christian Legislators Fellowship across successive Assemblies. The project funded entirely through voluntary contributions by serving Members of the National Assembly of Nigeria and their predecessors from the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th Assemblies, alongside well-meaning stakeholders and staff was delivered without recourse to public funds.

The commissioning ceremony was hosted by the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR.

Also present were former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His Excellency, George Akume, CON; Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, alongside several past and serving Members of the National Assembly, faith leaders, senior public officials, and members of the diplomatic and parliamentary community. Their presence lent further national significance to the historic occasion.

The Chapel now stands as a solemn sanctuary for prayer, reflection, and fellowship within the legislative environment, contributing to the moral and spiritual wellbeing of legislators and staff.

The Christian Legislators Fellowship expressed profound appreciation to all serving and former Members, staff, and stakeholders whose voluntary contributions made the project possible, describing the Chapel as a lasting symbol of unity, faith, and institutional continuity within the National Assembly.
