#PlenaryHighlights: Tuesday, December 16, 2025

Kicking off the legislative week, the House of Representatives took swift, decisive action by adopting three Matters of Urgent Public Importance. This strategic intervention is aimed at safeguarding national interests and ensuring the welfare of citizens in critical sectors.

The House has launched high-level interventions across the following areas:

1. Energy Stability: A Joint Committee has been mandated to investigate the ongoing dispute between the NMDPRA and Dangote Refinery. The committee’s findings will address potential risks to fuel supply and prevent a crisis during the upcoming Yuletide season. The goal is to safeguard both consumer interests and the future of domestic refining investments.

2. Sovereign Assets: The House has directed key committees to engage with security and diplomatic agencies for the prompt and safe return of the Nigerian military aircraft and crew currently held in Burkina Faso. Efforts are being fast-tracked to ensure the swift resolution of the situation and the safe return of both personnel and equipment.

3. Public Safety & Infrastructure: In response to growing public concern, the House has demanded expedited rehabilitation of failed sections of the Abuja–Lokoja Highway. This critical infrastructure is essential for safe travel and reducing security risks, especially as the holiday season approaches.
