The House of Representatives extends heartfelt greetings to Christians across Nigeria as they embark on the solemn journey of Lent—a sacred season of prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and spiritual renewal.

Lent is a call to self-examination, sacrifice, and a return to the core values of faith, love, and service. Just as Christ spent forty days in the wilderness in preparation for His divine mission, this season offers an opportunity for personal transformation and a deeper connection with God.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, CON, encouraged Christians to emulate the example of Jesus Christ by engaging in prayer, fasting, and acts of charity, seeking to deepen their faith, confront their weaknesses, and become transformed individuals.

“As we observe Lent, I urge all Christians to pray fervently for our dear nation, Nigeria. We must seek divine guidance and intervention in addressing the challenges we face as a nation. We are also called as Christians to forgive one another, just as God has forgiven us through the death of Jesus Christ.

“Let us use this period to let go of grudges and seek reconciliation with one another,” Rt. Hon. Kalu added.

The House of Representatives wishes the Christian faithful a fulfilling Lenten Season and urges all Nigerians, especially the Christian faithful, to embrace this period as a time for introspection and unity. May this season inspire healing and a renewed commitment to the ideals that bind us as a nation.

Signed:

Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr.

Spokesman, House of Representatives
