The House of Representatives, during plenary on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, advanced a number of legislative proposals aimed at strengthening educational institutions, modernising commercial regulations, enhancing consumer protection, promoting professional standards, and improving welfare provisions for military personnel.
Two Bills completed the Third Reading stage. These include:
1. Federal College of Education, Bende (Establishment) Act (Amendment) Bill (HB. 2776)
2. Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item, Bende (Establishment) Act (Amendment) Bill (HB. 2775)
The Bills seek to provide institutional clarity by designating Item, Bende as the host community of the Federal College of Education and the official location of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Abia State.
The House also advanced four Bills to the Committee Stage following successful Second Reading debates:
1. Sale of Goods Act (Amendment) Bill (HB. 2541)
2. Price Control Act (Amendment) Bill (HB. 2542)
3. Chartered Institute of Human Resources and Strategic Management of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill (HB. 2508)
4. Armed Forces Pension Act (Amendment) Bill (HB. 2745)
Collectively, the Bills seek to align commercial laws with the realities of Nigeria’s digital economy, strengthen consumer protection and market oversight, promote professionalism and capacity development in human resource management, and improve the legal framework governing pension administration for retired personnel of the Armed Forces.
Following their consideration, the Bills were referred to the relevant Committees of the House for further legislative scrutiny and action.
