The House of Representatives at its plenary on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, adopted two Matters of Urgent Public Importance addressing security and humanitarian concerns in Ekiti and Taraba States.
The resolutions reflect the House’s continued commitment to responding swiftly to issues affecting the safety, welfare, and well-being of Nigerians through targeted legislative intervention.
Ekiti Abduction
Following concerns over the abduction of worshippers during an open-air crusade in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State on April 28, 2026, the House condemned the attack and urged the Nigeria Police Force, Armed Forces of Nigeria, Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies to intensify coordinated operations to secure the immediate rescue of the victims, including women, children, and the elderly, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Karim Lamido Crisis
The House also called for urgent humanitarian intervention following renewed violence between the Karinjo and Wurkun communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, which resulted in loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of property. Members urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief materials, while the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) provide shelter and rehabilitation support to affected persons.
