#PlenaryHighlights: Wednesday, March 11, 2026

A key segment of Wednesday’s sitting at the House of Representatives was devoted to motions sponsored by Honourable Members, leading to the adoption of important resolutions addressing legislative procedure, national transport development, and public safety infrastructure.

The key resolutions are:

1. Polytechnic Education:

The House re-committed the Polytechnics Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (Establishment) Bill, 2026 to the Committee of the Whole for reconsideration. The bills had been passed by the preceding Assembly and transmitted for presidential assent, which was neither granted nor withheld before the expiration of the last Assembly’s tenure.

2. Transport Infrastructure:

The House urged the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Nigerian Railway Corporation to prioritise the development of the Benin–Lagos railway corridor under the National Transport Masterplan, citing the corridor’s economic importance and the growing concerns over congestion, insecurity, and road deterioration along the Lagos–Benin highway.

3. Road Safety Infrastructure:

The House also called on the Federal Ministry of Works to review the design of the ongoing Sagamu–Benin Expressway project to incorporate the construction of pedestrian bridges and flyovers at critical high-risk locations within Sagamu to enhance public safety and improve traffic flow.
