Tribute to Hon. Mrs. Ogundare Olusola (Iya Olowo Itapa)
On behalf of the good people of Ekiti North 1 (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency, we celebrate the life and times of a truly remarkable woman, Hon. Mrs. Ogundare Olusola, fondly known as Iya Olowo Itapa. Deeply rooted and an influential stakeholder in the constituency – she was from Odo Ayedun, Ekiti and resident in Itapa-Ekiti.
Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to the service, empowerment, and upliftment of her people, ensuring that their voices were heard and their needs addressed.
A seasoned communicator and tireless advocate, Iya Olowo had the rare gift of translating complex policies and programmes into practical insights that the grassroots could grasp and act upon. Her voice on the phone, as a famous caller on radio programmes, consistently engaged critical issues, providing government with feedback, criticism, and praise as necessary.
One time, she created a hilarious video of herself riding a motorbike across a newly constructed road, creating eloquent commentary and content that demonstrated the tangible impact of governance.
Iya Olowo Itapa may not have held formal degrees in mass communications or public relations, but she possessed a profound, almost intuitive mastery of communication. She understood our people, their hopes, their needs, and their frustrations, and she recognized the transformative power of genuine engagement. She knew that governance is not simply about issuing directives but about building connections and making every individual feel seen, heard, and valued.
Her brilliance and dedication did not go unnoticed. H.E. Governor Biodun Oyebanji recognized her exceptional talent and engaged her as an aide on community engagement, a role in which she amplified the voices of the people and ensured that governance remained firmly anchored to those it was meant to serve.
Yet her greatest legacy is neither in titles nor accolades. It is found in the life she lived, the path she walked, and the example she set. She showed rather than instructed and went the way rather than merely pointing the way. Through her life, she demonstrated that true leadership is embodied in service, patience, clarity, and the courage to bridge the gap between power and people. Every conversation, every field visit, and every insight she shared left an enduring mark that will continue to inspire generations.
Iya Olowo Itapa was an inspiring presence whose influence extended far across Ekiti. Her legacy is one of integrity, excellence, and unwavering service, a light that will never fade. While we mourn her passing, we celebrate a life that illuminated the path of leadership, engagement, and community for all.
As she was committed to mother earth today, I join friends and family across Ekiti State and beyond to pray for the peaceful repose of her soul and for comfort and fortitude for all those who mourn her.
Rest in peace, Iya Olowo Itapa. Your legacy, example, and values will forever inspire us.
