The House of Representatives has passed a major legislation advancing Nigeria’s identity management system.
The bill, presented on the floor of the Green Chamber by the Deputy House Leader, Rep. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, repeals the National Identity Management Commission Act 2007 and establishes a strengthened National Identity Database and National Identity Management Commission.
This legislative step is aimed at improving national planning, enhancing security, and ensuring a more reliable identity framework for citizens and residents.
Status: To be transmitted to the Senate for concurrence.
