The House of Representatives at its plenary on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR, dedicated its proceedings, primarily to matters of national security and the internal safety of the legislature.

A crucial step was the formal presentation of the Report on the Draft Resolution on National Security Reform and Enhancement, which consolidates the resolutions from the previous week’s extensive security debates. Concurrently, the House received the report for a Bill seeking to establish the Legislative Security Directorate, aimed at strengthening the internal security architecture of the National Assembly.

Security challenges across the nation translated into urgent legislative action, particularly concerning Bauchi State. The House adopted motions demanding a review of security agencies’ deployment strategy to ensure the protection of rural communities. Furthermore, the legislature called for the immediate arrest of perpetrators responsible for the ambush and killing of five police officers in Darazo Local Government Area.

Beyond security, Lawmakers moved to halt the persistent delay in recommencing Social Investment Programmes for vulnerable Nigerians and resolved to constitute an Ad Hoc Committee to thoroughly investigate all funds recovered from the NSIPA during the 2024–2025 probes.

Additionally, the House mandated an investigation and appraisal of the performance and benefits accruing to the Federal Government from all concessionaire-operated ports and logistics facilities spanning the period from 2006 to 2025.

Finally, the House established a definitive timetable for the conclusion of the ongoing 6th Alteration to the 1999 Constitution. Debates on the Constitution Alteration Bills are scheduled for Wednesday, December 3 and Thursday, December 4. This will be followed by the critical Clause-by-clause voting on the Bills, set to take place the following week on Tuesday, December 9 and Wednesday, December 10, marking a major milestone in the legislative calendar.
