Abuja, FCT | Tuesday, July 22, 2025 – The House of Representatives invites members of the judiciary, civil society organisations, citizens, and other critical stakeholders to a Public Hearing on the proposed legislation for the establishment of Lower Courts within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The Public Hearing, convened by the House Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Judiciary, will examine the Bill for an Act to Establish Lower Courts (District and Magistrate Courts) for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with Jurisdiction Over Civil and Criminal Cases and Matters, and for the Appointment of Judges, Magistrates, and Other Court Officers, and for Other Related Matters.

Chairman of the House Committee on FCT Judiciary, Rep. Adamu Ibrahim Gamawa, reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to strengthening the judicial system in the Federal Capital Territory through responsive and impactful legislation.
“This proposed law seeks to close long-standing gaps in access to justice in the FCT by ensuring the timely adjudication of civil and criminal matters at the district and magistrate levels.
“This Public Hearing is a vital opportunity for open dialogue on critical provisions of the bill and for strengthening public confidence in the legislative process. I assure all stakeholders of our readiness to engage with constructive inputs from every quarter,” Rep. Gamawa stated.
