The House of Representatives congratulates Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana on his appointment as Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA) and Engr. Bashir Aminu Yero as Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly (DCNA) who both assumed office this week.
Their appointments by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) follow the retirement of Sani Magaji Tambuwal, the former Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), who served with dedication and reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
During Tuesday’s plenary, presided over by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Members were formally informed of the appointments, effective February 2, 2025. In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker expressed the House’s confidence in the new appointees, stating, “We are confident that they will bring valuable experience and insight to these esteemed offices, further enhancing our legislative functions.”
Rt. Hon. Kalu also conveyed the House’s heartfelt gratitude to the outgone CNA, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, for his years of dedicated service, acknowledging his professionalism and leadership, which have been instrumental to the progress of the National Assembly.
Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana brings a wealth of institutional knowledge to his role as CNA, having served in various capacities within the legislative bureaucracy since 1993. A seasoned legal and legislative expert, he has been instrumental in legislative drafting, committee oversight, and administrative leadership. Rising through the ranks from Litigation Officer to Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly (DCNA) and now Clerk, his career reflects a deep commitment to the legislative process and public service.
Similarly, Engr. Bashir Aminu Yero, an accomplished administrator and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), brings vast experience in facility management, legislative infrastructure, and bureaucratic coordination. Having previously served as Acting Secretary of the Directorate of Estate and Works, his strong administrative and engineering expertise, combined with a deep understanding of the National Assembly’s operations, will be instrumental in enhancing institutional efficiency
The House of Representatives looks forward to working with the new leadership of the National Assembly bureaucracy to enhance legislative efficiency, improve institutional management, and strengthen service delivery, all in pursuit of our collective commitment to deepening democracy in Nigeria.

Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr.
