Earlier today, Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr. participated as a facilitator in a capacity development programme organized by the Ekiti State Ministry of Youth Development, under the leadership of Hon. Adedayo Gold, for members of the Ekiti State Youth Parliament.
Rep. Rotimi delivered an insightful presentation on the topic: “Mastering Parliamentary Procedures: Rules, Debates, and Legislative Processes.” The session aimed to equip young parliamentarians with the knowledge and skills required to effectively navigate legislative processes and contribute meaningfully to governance.
Key themes addressed during his presentation included:
1. Rules of Debate, Decorum, and Respectful Engagement: Emphasizing the importance of maintaining professionalism, order, and respect during parliamentary sessions to foster productive and meaningful deliberations.
2. Drafting and Passing Motions, Resolutions, and Bills: Providing a comprehensive overview of the legislative process, from drafting proposals to securing the approval of motions, resolutions, and bills.
3. Roles and Responsibilities of Committees and Subcommittees: Highlighting the critical functions of committees in legislative reviews, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring oversight.
4. *Consensus-Building and Constructive Collaboration:* Stressing the importance of inclusivity, compromise, and collaboration as essential tools for achieving sustainable legislative and policy outcomes.
5. Leveraging Parliamentary Procedures for Youth-Focused Policies: Offering practical guidance on using legislative tools to advocate for youth empowerment, education, and employment policies.
