The House of Representatives on Wednesday convened plenary, advancing key legislative, security, and policy matters, while addressing citizen concerns and internal parliamentary procedures.

The House received an executive communication from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu transmitting a Bill to repeal and re-enact the Nigerian Police Trust Fund (NPTF) Act, aimed at strengthening the Fund’s legal and operational framework.

Members raised concerns over the rising cost of medicines and called for urgent revival of local pharmaceutical manufacturing to enhance affordability and self-sufficiency. On agriculture, the House advocated the development of sustainable price stabilisation mechanisms to safeguard farmers’ investments and improve food security.

Addressing security challenges, the House urged the Minister of Defence to deploy adequate personnel and assets to Bukkuyum LGA, Zamfara State, and called for urgent intervention in the killings in Kaiama LGA, Kwara State, and surrounding communities. In its legislative work, Members introduced the Special Court for Terrorism, Banditry and Kidnapping (Establishment) Bill and fourteen others for first reading.

The House also received Committee Reports, including that on the Civil Registration Reform Bill, and approved two reports to support national development. To enhance efficiency, the House discharged Committees on previously referred Bills in line with Standing Orders.

At the start of plenary, six Members resigned from the parties that sponsored their election to the House, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gaining four seats. The House further demonstrated its commitment to representation by laying five petitions from citizens seeking legislative redress.
