The House of Representatives on Thursday recorded significant legislative outputs as several key bills were debated and read for the Second Time, signalling progress across critical sectors including public finance, agriculture, professional regulation, and national security.

Among the bills presented for debate was the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Appropriation Bill, 2026, which seeks to authorise expenditure exceeding ₦2.2 trillion for personnel, overhead, and capital projects for the service of the FCT within the 2026 financial year.

Also debated was a Bill to amend the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Act to provide for the establishment of the Federal College of Agriculture, Ovwor Olomu, Delta State, aimed at strengthening agricultural education and capacity development.

In the area of professional regulation and institutional development, the House considered bills seeking to establish the Chartered Sustainability Professionals Institute of Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Applied Information Management Professionals, and the Strategic Intelligence Management Institute, each designed to enhance standards, training, and governance within their respective fields.

Additionally, a Constitution Alteration Bill proposing the creation of additional Local Government Areas in Edo State was presented, reflecting efforts to address administrative and representation concerns at the sub-national level.

Following their Second Reading, the bills were referred to the relevant House Committees for further legislative action.
