The House of Representatives at plenary adopted key Matters of Urgent Public Importance, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding lives, strengthening national security architecture, and responding swiftly to emerging security threats across the federation.

The House initiated urgent interventions in the following areas:

1. Forest security operations in Ekiti North 1:

Rising cases of kidnappings, killings, and violent attacks across communities in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State prompted the House to call for coordinated security action. The House tasked the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to lead a joint operation involving relevant federal security agencies to identify and dismantle criminal camps operating within forests along the Ekiti–Kogi–Kwara border corridor, which have increasingly been exploited as hideouts for armed groups.

2. Strengthening security presence in Kaiama, Kwara State:

Following a tragic bandit attack on communities in Kaiama Local Government Area that resulted in widespread loss of lives, destruction of property, and abductions, the House restated its call for the establishment of a military base in the area. The proposed security deployment aims to reinforce protection for residents, deter further attacks, and stabilise affected communities.

These resolutions underscore the House’s determination to address evolving security challenges through coordinated federal response mechanisms and sustained legislative oversight.
