#PlenaryHighlights: Wednesday, January 28, 2026
The House of Representatives at plenary took firm and decisive action to strengthen security across the federation by adopting three Matters of Urgent Public Importance, underscoring its commitment to national security, public order, and peaceful coexistence.
The House initiated urgent interventions in the following areas:
1. Counter-banditry and humanitarian response:
Addressing persistent banditry attacks in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, the House demanded coordinated military and police operations, deployment of Mobile Police Force units, provision of relief materials to affected communities, and sustained legislative oversight until normalcy is fully restored.
2. Communal security and justice:
In response to a recent violent incident in Okon-Aku, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, the House called for immediate security intervention, thorough investigation, and prosecution of those responsible, alongside humanitarian assistance for injured victims.
3. Boundary stability and resource governance:
The House resolved to de-escalate rising tensions and prevent a breakdown of law and order in the oil-rich Eba Island–Atijere axis along the boundary between Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State and Ogun State. To ensure clarity, peace, and institutional certainty, the House mandated the relevant Committee to engage the National Boundary Commission for an urgent determination of the area’s status.
These resolutions are aimed at restoring peace, preventing escalation, and reinforcing justice and accountability.
