The House of Representatives today hosted a historic Joint Sitting of the National Assembly for the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill by H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, marking the third Joint Session of the 10th Assembly convened for the presentation of the Annual Budget.
The ₦58.18 trillion Budget Proposal of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience, and Shared Prosperity signals a transition from economic adjustment to disciplined growth, anchored on macroeconomic stability, job creation, human capital development, and social protection.
Key sectoral priorities include Security, Infrastructure, Education, and Health, reflecting a deliberate focus on stability, productivity, and inclusive development.
President Tinubu in his speech, reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to strict budget execution, directing that implementation adhere fully to legislative appropriations and timelines.
In their remarks, the leadership of the National Assembly emphasised the necessity of Executive–Legislative collaboration in delivering measurable outcomes.
President of the Senate, H.E. Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, called for responsibility over cynicism in the national interest. On his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives,Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, affirmed that 2026 must be a year of fulfilment, pledging rigorous and patriotic scrutiny of the Bill to ensure value for every Naira appropriated.
Both chambers of the National Assembly will now schedule a commencement of legislative consideration of the 2026 Appropriation Bill in furtherance of accountable governance and national development.
