The House of Representatives, at Thursday’s plenary, adopted six consequential motions addressing pension arrears, healthcare infrastructure, national road safety, community electrification, and security concerns affecting several communities across the country.
(i) NNPC Pension Fund Directed to Commence Payment of Accumulated Arrears
The House mandated NNPC Pension Fund Ltd to commence payment of all accumulated pensions and arrears to retirees within three months.
(ii) Improved Diagnostic Capacity for FMC Jalingo
The House urged the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to immediately provide and install MRI machines and other essential diagnostic equipment at FMC Jalingo to strengthen equitable healthcare delivery across Taraba State and the North-East region.
(iii) Urgent Action on Failing Ovia and Ibere River Bridges
The House called on the Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA to mobilise contractors immediately for the rehabilitation of the worsening Ovia Bridge on the Benin–Ore–Lagos Expressway, in line with provisions of the 2024 Appropriations Act.
It also urged the relevant agencies to conduct a full structural assessment and undertake comprehensive rehabilitation of the dilapidated Ibere River Bridge in Emuren, Sagamu LGA, Ogun State.
(iv) Completion of Iluke–Aiyetoro–Kiri–Abugi–Eggan Road Project and Restoration of Power to Edo Community
The House urged the Federal Ministry of Works to remobilise SETRACO Nigeria Limited for the immediate continuation of the abandoned Iluke–Aiyetoro–Kiri–Abugi–Eggan road project and called on the Inspector-General of Police to ensure regular patrols along the corridor to curb criminal activities.
Additionally, it tasked the Federal Ministry of Power and the Rural Electrification Agency to assess the vandalised power infrastructure and ensure full restoration of electricity to Uzea Kingdom in Esan North-East and Esan South-East Federal Constituency, which has endured a seven-year power outage.
