The Nigeria House of Representatives, in the exercise of its constitutional mandate of lawmaking and oversight, operates through various committees. These may be Special Committees, Standing Committees, Ad Hoc Committees, or plenary-based Committees.
While these committees are usually chaired by Honourable Members, some are unique because they are chaired only by the Presiding Officers of the House, namely the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
These committees are:
1. Committee on Selection (Special Committee) – Chaired by the Speaker
2. Committee on Constitution Review (Standing Committee) – Conventionally chaired by the Deputy Speaker.
3. Committee of the Whole (Plenary-based) – By the rules of the House, it is chaired by the Deputy Speaker
4. Committee of Supply (Plenary-based) – Chaired by the Speaker, or the Deputy Speaker in his absence.
