Advancing Constitutional Reforms

This week, the House received 17 new legislative proposals, with 65% focused on constitutional amendments. To accelerate their progression, priority was given to their First Reading.

Responding to widespread calls for reform, the 10th House remains committed to a structured, non-politicised review of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), setting a December 2025 deadline for the 6th Alteration to ensure due process before the next election cycle.

Beyond constitutional amendments, a key highlight is the Treaty (Making Procedure, Etc.) Act (Amendment) Bill, aimed at refining Nigeria’s treaty-making process.
