The public hearing for the Bill to establish Gifted and Talented Centres in Nigeria (HB. 931) was successfully held yesterday, marking a significant milestone in our collective effort to nurture the extraordinary potential of gifted children across the nation.

The event received overwhelming support from key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Ministry of Education, the National Education Research and Development Council (NERDC), and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). These organizations, through their presentations, unanimously affirmed the necessity and timeliness of this initiative.

It is noteworthy that the policy which established the only Federal Government-owned school for the gifted and talented in Nigeria was produced in 1986. This underscores the urgency of creating legislation that aligns with global best practices, ensuring a sustainable and comprehensive framework for supporting gifted education in Nigeria.

Stakeholders also provided constructive feedback to strengthen the Bill, including recommendations for clear funding mechanisms, a robust selection process for beneficiaries, and a framework for continuous professional development for educators in these specialized centers.

Thank you for your prayers and support. Together, we are taking bold steps toward creating a brighter future for our children and our nation.
